From the Ground Up

As some of you know, Jeremy and I have been designing a home for almost a year now. Our dream became a reality when we realized that because of intrest rates being at an all time low, and contractors being so hungry for work that now was the time to build. We are extremely excited, and it has been so much fun watching the daily progress. It is literally across the street from our current house, so we get to watch everything. Below are the pictures of the process up until where it is at now. We plan to have it "shelled in" by winter so that it will be protected then we may slow the pace on it down a little, depending on the status of our current house. Here goes, enjoy :-) and feel free to stop by anytime to see how it's going!

Here is "time lapse" series of photos from where our road into the house will be:
August 9th
 August 24th
Sept 7th
Sept 22nd
 Sept 26th
 Sept 27th
 Sept 28th
 Oct 9th

Starting somewhere :-)
Working on the well...

Staking out the future foundation...

The day we broke ground, Jeremy had to work, so Bert asked Connor if he wanted to help him (normally he doesn't go to hardly anyone else, let alone a total stranger) but when asked "you want to drive the tractor?" he didn't even hesitate :-)

The official first dig!! Connor on board and everything

Connor inspecting the fresh dirt...

Connor inspecting the excavator treads...

The dirt on our property is VERY powdery... we've been calling it "moon dust", we had to water it to get a good solid base..
The House...

The Garage..

Connor throwing rocks.. Daisy making sure he's safe..

Setting up the forms for foundation..

Forms all set and ready for concrete..(this is the view from the backyard master bedroom side of the house)

Connor inspecting the concrete the morning after they poured it,,, Looks GOOD!

Ready for foam blocks for crawl space

Unloading the Logix foam blocks, they act as the forms, but aren't removed after concrete is poured so they also add a very significant amount of R-value to our houses insulation.

They look like giant Styrofoam legos :-)

Connor was most interested in the semi-truck they were delivered on...

They nice driver even let him sit in the driver seat.... It was a "pimped out semi truck"...

Logix almost ready for concrete..They literally had them ready in 1 day, poured the next... apparently people build entire homes out of this stuff :-) saves a ton on labor and power (in the future)!

Contractors just like it because it's like playing with legos!

Mike is very proud of himself on our house..  he's only off level 1/16th of an inch  and off square 1/8th of an inch... it will make the finish work soooo much easier!!

Uncle Brian and Jaylin came to Omak for my birthday.. at the property Connor talked Brian into getting into the tractor with him.. they both seem to be enjoying themselves.. Notice the mark on his face :-(  Connor and I walked over to the property earlier that morning and he tripped on the concrete and because he had a toy in each hand, he couldn't catch himself.. so his forehead took the brunt of it :-( Poor guy.. so tough though, hardly cried...

Connor helping with some of the framing...

We all can't stand how fluffy the dirt is, but Connor thinks it great! It's helping him understand cause and effect "the more I run, the more of this fluffy smoke there is" :-) I am doing more laundry than ever!

Our contractor got a few really great photos of the I joists that support the floor, i'll have to add it later, this is the only one I got before they added the plywood..

Yeah.. that's a lot of plywood.. I just keep thinking.. "I'll be sweeping and moping all of that someday :-/" Even with those kinds of thoughts... I'm very excited to have our own custom home with lots of space for visitors and a family we plan to someday expand beyond 3.

The first wall is up!! This is the Guest Room from the front of the house, there will be a private entrance to the guest room.. that's the door shown..

Connor thinks he's a big help :-)

Posing for the camera, stopping barely long enough to get a clear image :-).. They are standing the second wall in the background!

Wahoo!!

The view is what we designed our house around... so there are LOTS of BIG windows on this side of the house.. this is the view~!

The view just as you walk in the front door, the fireplace will be in the middle..

The view from the master doorway to the living kitchen entry area..The guest room is on the far side

So fun to have walls! These are the 1/2 bath, Jeremy's closet and the exterior walls for our bathroom..

The backside of the house, our bedroom is the one closest..

From the fireplace looking into the kitchen and entry way..
It seems to be moving along at a good pace... won't be long and we'll have a 2nd story!! I'll try to keep my blog up to date, but it may have a roof the next time I post, with by blogging track record :-(
O well, until next time :-)
