Going home

Brian was in the hospital for 8 days.. Now he is in Boise where he will spend the majority of the healing process, likely several months. He will start Physical Therapy in about 6 weeks. He was evaluated recently by a PT who said that normally someone only a week and a half after a wreck like this who sustained these kind of injuries would still need help getting in and out of bed etc. Brian appears to be doing better than expected.. I guess youth and a strong upper body are on his side :-) Here are a few pictures from the last couple of days in the hospital, and going home.

Dad made it to the hospital Thursday evening, he stayed until Monday. He drove Brians truck to Boise with what was left of his bike.

Jeremy made it on Saturday.. While the circumstances sucked, it was nice having all the family together!

Hanging out with his uncle... Connor was named Coach Connor, Brian had to listen to him :-) Connor discovered the TV while we spent hours in the hospital, I can see proof that the lights in screens really do put babies and kids into a "coma"... He would just stare!! Glad I don't have one at home.. I don't want to start that habit.......

Brians bike... or what is left of it.. the pictures don't do  a justice to how mangled it was.. basically the whole front end is gone!

He is SOO lucky to be alive!

First time out of the room! practicing for going home..

Dad took out all of the seats in mom's SUV and I rigged up bed for him with an airmattress, memory foam pad and hand rails for him to pull him self in. Because of hospital policy (not condoning unrestrained transport) their staff couldn't help get Brian loaded, so we were on our own with the help of a few of Bri's friends. It went SOOO much smoother than any of us expected :-)

Discussing the plan of action... 2 of Brian's closest friends helping with the task

The 2 guys basically pulled him into the car under the arms and mom and Sarah supported and guided his lower body..

His new ride for 8 hours.. he said it was more comfortable than the hospital bed! Yeah..

Connor and I saying goodbye... While it was a long exhausting week, it was nice to spend so much time with Brian and Mom.

On the way home I noticed how beautiful things were...I hadn't noticed it on the way to Spokane, maybe becasue my eyes were foggy from crying, or I was just in a hurry to get there, or because I was seeing things from a whole new perspective now...
I needed to stop to feed Connor anyways, so we stopped at Grand Coulee Dam.. It was so beautiful with them spilling and all of the greenery!

Grand Coulee Dam

What a beautiful sight... another view along the drive

I am so glad that I was able to be in Spokane this week to spend time with Brian, help my mom and dad in this stressful time and just to be a support however possible. I have to say the stress of all of it, the short nights, and the long hours at the hospital have left me more exhausted than the whole "new mom" thing has.  Although, I would be even more exhausted if Connor wouldn't have been such a trooper the whole week :-).. So thankful that Brian is alive, and is going to walk again!~! Now we are off to Connors first convention, Chelan. We will only get Fri, Sat and Sun, but we plan to get all of Parma.
