Day 2 Soldotna to Anchor Point AK

Here is a map of where we traveled on Day 2... The dotted line represents a plane ride :-)
We woke up to a drizzle, but decided after talking to the pilots that we wouldn’t cancel our “bear viewing/fishing” excursion as the pilots figured the rain would lift… MISTAKE! While it was very cool to take a float plane for the first time, it was pouring… and our little 19 foot fishing boat wasn’t covered. If it had just been Jeremy and I we wouldn’t have cared about rain, but with Connor it was not exactly enjoyable. Luckily his stroller has a great rain cover, but the bad thing was he didn’t want to be in it… he wanted held.  Nicole basically held him under an umbrella for 4 hours. Connor did sleep long enough for Nicole to catch 2 Silver Salmon though… Nicole and Connor took an earlier flight back to the RV, while Jeremy stayed out about 2 hours more, he did see a black bear and was able to also catch 2 fish, so while the excursion was kind of disappointing, it wasn’t a TOTAL flop!

Just before our first floatplane ride...

Here is a video from the floatplane ride :-)

On the plane before we landed at the boats for the fishing and bear viewing!

It was raining SO hard, here is Connor hanging out in his stroller that is well covered! I wished they made one big enough for me :-)

Jeremy and the guide trying to stay as dry as possible...

We stopped in Soldotna at the visitors center which is where the famous Kenai Fish Walk is and where they have a station for cleaning fish. Jeremy cleaned ours so we would have something to eat for dinner! Also at the visitors center they have the largest King Salmon ever caught, over 97 lbs!

Connor next to a statue of the "worlds largest King Salmon".. it is actually bigger than this one..

Jeremy cleaning our fish on the fish walk in Soldotna... its funny color is from the ice in the cooler...

the fish walk on the Kenai River.. Jeremy is in the center of the image cleaning fish...

We drove as far as the town of Anchor Point for the night, as that is where we will go to meeting tomorrow. Anchor Point is known being the most westerly highway in the USA, we went to the very end of the highway.. and then even further onto the beach, and camped there for the night.. after of course enjoying our Salmon dinner!
